Yamaha MT-15 Display Before After

The Yamaha MT-15 is known for its sharp styling, LED headlamp, and modern digital meter. But one issue many riders face is sun-faded displays, especially when the bike stays parked outdoors.

Recently, a customer who found us on Instagram visited Gadi Garage with a badly faded MT-15 meter. In his case, the display had become dull, and the top meter housing had turned weak due to strong sunlight. Small scratches on the top cover also increased the risk of water entering the meter.

This is the complete story of how we restored the MT-15 meter to a brand-new condition.

How the MT-15 Meter Got Sun-Faded

The customer told us that his bike was always parked outdoors. Continuous sunlight exposure caused:

  • Fading of the LCD layer
  • Low display brightness
  • Weakening of the top plastic cover
  • Small scratches due to dust and heat

MT-15 meters are sensitive to UV rays. When the meter heats up every day, the top cover becomes brittle. Small cracks allow dust and water to enter, which can damage the motherboard if ignored.

Inspection at Gadi Garage

After opening the meter, we found:

  • The LCD was sun-burnt and needed complete restoration
  • The top meter housing had become too weak
  • Micro-cracks were visible along the edges
  • Dust had already entered through the scratched areas
  • Display clarity had reduced by almost half

To prevent future damage, the customer asked for full restoration along with a brand-new top cover replacement.

How We Restored the MT-15 Sun-Faded Meter

We follow a proper step-by-step process for all MT-15 meter repairs.

1. Safe Meter Disassembly

We opened the meter carefully, keeping the weak top cover intact until replacement.

2. LCD Display Restoration

To fix the faded display, we:

  • Removed the sun-burnt Display
  • Cleaned full LCD Display
  • Installed the display after service
  • Re-aligned the display properly

This brought back the original brightness and clarity.

3. Top Meter Cover Replacement

The existing cover was:

  • Sun-damaged
  • Weak
  • Scratched
  • Unsafe for water protection

So, we replaced it with a new MT-15 top meter housing to ensure long-term safety from sunlight and rain.

4. Internal Cleaning & Waterproofing

We completely cleaned the inside of the meter and added waterproof sealing around the housing to prevent any future moisture entry.

5. Full Function Testing

Before delivery, we tested:

  • Display brightness
  • Fuel bar movement
  • RPM sweep
  • Warning indicators
  • Backlight performance

Everything worked perfectly.

Result – The Meter Looked Brand New Again

After the restoration and top cover replacement, the MT-15 meter looked:

  • Clean
  • Bright
  • Clear
  • As good as a new unit

The customer was very happy and said the display looked even better than when the bike was new.

Why This Repair Was Important

If the top cover had not been replaced:

  • Rainwater could enter through the cracks
  • The motherboard might corrode
  • The meter could fail completely
  • Replacement cost would be very high

A small scratch today can cause a big loss later. This repair prevented major future damage.

Apache 160 Meter Looked Completely Dead After Water Damage — Here’s How We Saved It

Apache 160 meter Before And After

Today at Gadi Garage, we received an Apache 160 digital meter that looked completely dead after severe water damage. The customer arrived with a simple request:

“Bro, if you can save this meter, please do it. I don’t want to buy a new one.”

The older Apache 160 model uses a digital speedometer that is extremely sensitive to moisture. Once water enters the meter and stays inside, it can burn the internal circuits very quickly.

In this case, the meter wasn’t just affected — it was heavily damaged and several components on the motherboard were burnt.

Still, the customer wanted the original meter restored, and we decided to take up the challenge.

How the Problem Started

The bike was left outside during heavy rain. The next morning, the meter stopped responding.

The customer noticed:

  • No display
  • No backlight
  • Meter not turning ON
  • Only a slight flicker before going completely dead

He didn’t know how bad things were inside — but once we opened it, the condition became clear.

Inside the Meter: Severe Water Damage on Every Layer

When we dismantled the meter, we found:

  • Water traces throughout the display section
  • Burnt marks on multiple motherboard components
  • Shorted ICs
  • Corroded and loose connectors
  • Several broken circuit tracks

Water had stayed inside long enough to cause electrical burns and shorts across the board.

Many mechanics would call this meter “non-repairable,” but at Gadi Garage, we always attempt restoration before recommending replacement.

How We Restored the Apache 160’s Dead Meter

1. Removing All Water and Cleaning the Meter Internally

We started by completely removing moisture, rust, and corrosion from all internal parts.

2. Burnt Motherboard Component Repair

This was the most challenging part of the restoration.

We repaired:

  • Burnt resistors and capacitors
  • Shorted IC areas
  • Damaged power supply tracks
  • Broken copper lines

Several components had to be replaced and resoldered precisely.

3. Fixing Corroded Joints

Corrosion weakens signal flow, so we refreshed and rebuilt all damaged joints to stabilise the board.

4. Display and Backlight Revival

Once the motherboard repairs were complete, we powered up the meter.

The screen finally lit up again — confirming that the unit had been successfully revived.

5. Final Assembly + Proper Waterproofing

After restoring full functionality, we sealed the meter tightly using improved waterproofing methods to prevent future failures.

Final Result: A Completely Dead Meter Brought Back to Life

We successfully restored:

  • Full display clarity
  • Bright and even backlight
  • Accurate reading output
  • Smooth, stable functioning

When the customer saw the meter glowing again, he said:

“I never thought this meter would work again. Thank you so much.”

The entire repair cost him far less than buying a new OEM meter, making the restoration even more meaningful.
