We recently repaired an old-model TVS Apache 160 speedometer that came to us through courier from one of our Instagram followers.
While the Apache 160 is admired for its strong engine and loyal reliability, its older digital meters often suffer from heavy sun fade and age-related display failure.
This particular customer was facing the worst kind of issue:
The entire display had faded to the point where nothing was visible. Only a faint light remained, and the rest of the screen looked dead.
He wasn’t sure if it could be saved.
But after watching our repair videos, he decided to ship it to Gadi Garage and wrote a small note inside the package asking us to try our best.

Customer’s Issue – Display Fully Faded and Unreadable
Inside the parcel, he left a message:
“Bro, please try your best. This is my old bike. I want the meter to look new again.”
Once we opened the meter, the condition was clear:
- Display fully faded
- Zero visibility
- No speed, no fuel, no numbers
- Very old and tired appearance
- Weak internal output
- Age-related circuit dullness
This was definitely a long-term sun fade case.

Inspection at Gadi Garage
After a complete inspection, we found:
- The display layer was totally damaged
- Brightness was extremely low
- Board had a few weak points
- Dust had collected around connectors
- Moisture marks from old usage
The positive news was that the motherboard was still alive.
So yes — the meter was fully repairable.
But the customer didn’t want a “just working” meter.
He wanted it to look new, clean, and fresh again.
So we decided to rebuild it properly.

How We Restored the Old Apache 160 Speedometer
1. Opening the Old Meter Carefully
Older Apache meters become hard and brittle over time.
We opened the unit slowly to avoid breaking the casing.

2. Replacing the Old Display with a New One
The original display was completely gone, so we removed it and installed a brand-new, high-clarity display panel.
This step instantly restored visibility and brightness.

3. Motherboard Refresh and Repair
Even though the board was functional, it needed attention.
We:
- Cleaned old dust
- Removed heat marks
- Strengthened weak solder points
- Repaired loose connectors
- Restored stable display output
After this, the new screen started responding perfectly.
4. Internal Cleaning
Years of dust and dirt had built up inside.
We cleaned everything thoroughly to give the restored meter a clean, fresh finish.

5. Final Assembly & Sealing
Once the internal repairs were completed, we sealed the meter properly to protect it from future issues.

Final Result – A Meter That Looked Almost New
When we powered ON the meter after restoration, it looked nothing like the faded unit we had received.
The display was:
- Bright
- Clear
- Sharp
- Fully visible
- Smooth and stable
We shared the final photos with the customer, and his reply made our day:
“Bro, unbelievable! This looks like a brand new meter.”
