The Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 is a powerful and stylish bike, but its digital speedometer is highly sensitive to heat and sunlight. At Gadi Garage, we often receive NS 200 meters that have faded so badly that the screen becomes unreadable. Many riders assume this is a minor issue, but sun fade actually develops in multiple stages before the display turns completely dead.

Recently, we restored an NS 200 meter that had almost reached the final stage of sun damage. The LCD was pale, the top cover was faded, and the reset button rubber was weak. This blog explains the full fading process, early symptoms, and how we restored the meter to perfect working condition.

How Sun Fade Begins on NS 200 Meters

Sun fade does not appear suddenly. It happens slowly and progressively as the LCD and outer cover get damaged by UV heat. NS 200 meters are especially sensitive to thermal expansion and UV exposure.

Stage 1 – Top Glass Starts Fading

The outer glass becomes:

Read Also

  • Light yellow
  • Slightly dull
  • Less visible in daylight

This is the first warning sign.

Stage 2 – RPM Area Becomes Dull

As UV heat increases:

  • The RPM bar becomes less visible
  • Numbers appear weak
  • Backlight looks dim

Stage 3 – Full Display Fading

In this stage:

  • Entire screen looks pale
  • Visibility drops sharply
  • LCD turns grey or yellowish
  • Sharpness is lost

This requires immediate restoration.

Stage 4 – Reset Button Rubber Damage

Heat weakens the reset button rubber:

  • It cracks
  • It becomes loose
  • It breaks completely

This creates a water entry point, increasing the risk of internal corrosion.

Stage 5 – Water Enters the Meter

Once water gets in:

  • Backlight blinks
  • Fog appears inside
  • Display flickers
  • Backlight shuts down

At this point, both the LCD and motherboard are at risk.

Stage 6 – Complete Meter Failure

If ignored:

  • RPM stops
  • LCD dies
  • Only a faint Bajaj logo light may blink

Most riders think the meter cannot be saved, but we can restore it fully.

Inspection at Gadi Garage

When we opened this customer’s meter, we found:

  • Sun-burnt Display
  • Weak and faded top cover
  • Micro-cracks on the edges
  • Dust entering through the scratches
  • Display clarity reduced by more than 80%

We recommended:

  • Full LCD restoration
  • Reset button repair
  • Complete waterproof sealing
  • New top cover replacement (if cracked)

How We Restored the NS 200 Sun-Faded Meter

We opened the unit without damaging the fragile rubber areas.

2. Removing Burnt Display

The faded Display removed completely.

3. Installing New High-quality Display

A fresh Display restored:

  • Brightness
  • Sharpness
  • Daylight visibility

4. Reset Button Rubber Replacement

We replaced the damaged rubber to ensure no water can enter.

Final Result – A Fully Restored NS 200 Meter

After restoration, the meter looked:

  • Clear
  • Bright
  • Sharp
  • Fully waterproof
  • Like a new original unit

The customer was very satisfied and mentioned the display looked better than before.

Why NS 200 Meters Fade Faster

  • Thin meter glass
  • Heat trapped inside
  • Strong UV exposure
  • Ageing rubber parts

These factors make the NS 200 cluster more vulnerable to sun burn.

Apache 160 Meter Looked Completely Dead After Water Damage — Here’s How We Saved It

Apache 160 meter Before And After

Today at Gadi Garage, we received an Apache 160 digital meter that looked completely dead after severe water damage. The customer arrived with a simple request:

“Bro, if you can save this meter, please do it. I don’t want to buy a new one.”

The older Apache 160 model uses a digital speedometer that is extremely sensitive to moisture. Once water enters the meter and stays inside, it can burn the internal circuits very quickly.

In this case, the meter wasn’t just affected — it was heavily damaged and several components on the motherboard were burnt.

Still, the customer wanted the original meter restored, and we decided to take up the challenge.

How the Problem Started

The bike was left outside during heavy rain. The next morning, the meter stopped responding.

The customer noticed:

  • No display
  • No backlight
  • Meter not turning ON
  • Only a slight flicker before going completely dead

He didn’t know how bad things were inside — but once we opened it, the condition became clear.

Inside the Meter: Severe Water Damage on Every Layer

When we dismantled the meter, we found:

  • Water traces throughout the display section
  • Burnt marks on multiple motherboard components
  • Shorted ICs
  • Corroded and loose connectors
  • Several broken circuit tracks

Water had stayed inside long enough to cause electrical burns and shorts across the board.

Many mechanics would call this meter “non-repairable,” but at Gadi Garage, we always attempt restoration before recommending replacement.

How We Restored the Apache 160’s Dead Meter

1. Removing All Water and Cleaning the Meter Internally

We started by completely removing moisture, rust, and corrosion from all internal parts.

2. Burnt Motherboard Component Repair

This was the most challenging part of the restoration.

We repaired:

  • Burnt resistors and capacitors
  • Shorted IC areas
  • Damaged power supply tracks
  • Broken copper lines

Several components had to be replaced and resoldered precisely.

3. Fixing Corroded Joints

Corrosion weakens signal flow, so we refreshed and rebuilt all damaged joints to stabilise the board.

4. Display and Backlight Revival

Once the motherboard repairs were complete, we powered up the meter.

The screen finally lit up again — confirming that the unit had been successfully revived.

5. Final Assembly + Proper Waterproofing

After restoring full functionality, we sealed the meter tightly using improved waterproofing methods to prevent future failures.

Final Result: A Completely Dead Meter Brought Back to Life

We successfully restored:

  • Full display clarity
  • Bright and even backlight
  • Accurate reading output
  • Smooth, stable functioning

When the customer saw the meter glowing again, he said:

“I never thought this meter would work again. Thank you so much.”

The entire repair cost him far less than buying a new OEM meter, making the restoration even more meaningful.
